How does the rental process work?

When you find an item to rent, submit a request through the platform. The Lender reviews and approves it. Once approved, we charge your card for the rental fee, taxes, and a processing fee. Separately, we pre-authorize a $300 security deposit. Your payment info is secure — Lenders never see your credit card details. The process is similar to booking an Airbnb. After the rental, return the item on time and in the same condition.

What fees will I pay as a Borrower?

You’ll pay the rental fee set by the Lender, applicable taxes, and a payment processing fee (2.65% + $0.15). There are no extra platform fees for Borrowers, and LEND-IT.CA does not take a cut from Lenders.

How does the security deposit work?

LEND-IT.CA pre-authorizes a $300 security deposit on your credit card for every rental. Similar to checking in at a hotel, this amount is held but not charged. It’s only used if the item is returned late, damaged, or not returned — and only if a claim is submitted and approved. By signing up on LEND-IT.CA, you agree to this as part of our Terms of Service.

What happens if I return an item late?

Borrowers may be charged a prorated late fee based on the listing’s hourly rental rate. A partial hour is considered a full hour. If the delay exceeds 3 hours, an additional $50 fee applies. To avoid charges, try to extend the rental in advance or communicate with the Lender as soon as possible.

What happens if an item is damaged, lost, or stolen?

We understand that accidents happen. If an item is damaged, lost, or stolen during your rental, you may be responsible for repair or replacement costs — but only beyond normal wear and tear. For costs up to $300, we may use the pre-authorized deposit. If costs exceed $300, we’ll notify you before charging your payment method. We only process charges after reviewing the Lender’s claim and supporting documentation.

Can I rent items outside my city or province?

Yes — but pickup and return logistics are your responsibility. Always review the item location and any specific terms from the Lender before booking. If you’re planning to travel for a rental, we recommend messaging the Lender first.

Can I communicate with the Lender before booking?

Yes. You can message a Lender through the platform before submitting a rental request. This is a great way to confirm availability, ask about logistics, or clarify item details.
